My Hotel of Bees shawl is done ! I crocheted it in less than two weeks (new crochet speed record for me, yay !😅🤓) I used fingering weight of my hand dyed in Sunshine and Aries. I decided to use only two skeins in the end and didn’t add the 3rd color. But I am pretty happy with the result 😊💕
I love crafting but I know that crafting makes me gain weight. I tend to sit hours and hours without moving and it feels so good to do that, comfy knitting in a comfy couch, why not, right? The problem is that I have a high cholesterol issue and I choose not to take any medication (avoiding all the side effects). Hence I have to control what I eat and try to exercise regularly. I was good at exercising until I started crafting obsessively. Oh,I don’t want to only blame the craft that causes my sedentary life style. It’s all on me too, my lack of time management and pure laziness …lol
So I thought, why don’t I just cooperate my exercise routine with my beloved craft? I did it! I tried Pilates and it worked. Although i might not burn a whole lot of calories working out on a yoga mat or get a number of rows of knitting/crocheting done, I think it’s better than nothing, isn’t it?
Here it is, a short video clip I made of my “Knit with Fitness” Episode 1 (meaning there might be more in the future..lol) I hope to try more different exercise reps that I can cooperate with knitting, crocheting, and drop spindling (that might be tricky!) and I will make sure to share them here as well with you in the future 🙂
In the meantime, happy Crafting!

This Crofthoose hat is the 2nd fair isle hat I have knitted from the 2016 Shetland WoolWeek pattern. The hat is designed by the lovely shetlander knitter Ella Gordon. What I like about this pattern is that it’s easy to follow and you can choose five colour pallets to play with. So if you are a colour maniac/enthusiast like me, you would enjoy knitting one 🙂
Click on the video above to see what colour choice I chose from Blacker Yarn and Jamieson and Smith 2ply/fingering weight.
This project took me about three weeks to finish but I am a slow knitter so don’t take it as a standard knitting time…lol
Hiya, my mini yarn shop needs a happy woolly “vote” from you !
Thank you in advance 🙂
For those who didn’t get a chance to visit the festival which was a-m-a-z-i-n-g by the way, here is a mini film I made during my break from volunteering and a short clip of the Ceilidh Night 🙂
See you again next year!
I really love this song 😀 !!
Are u ready for Edinburgh Yarn Fest ?
It’s my 3rd year volunteering at the festival. Oh, I finally finished my epic shawl The Doodler to wear to the festival too😁🐏
See you there !
How has your week been?
Mine’s been great. Busy dyeing as usual (I like saying this, it sounds funny if you don’t know the context that i dye yarn!) 😀 But this week I also spent quite some time making mini yarn ball earrings to stock up in my Etsy shop and for up-coming craft fairs in summer and autumn. I know spring is not actually official here yet in Scotland but soon ?!
Yesterday was a kickoff of MarledmagicMKAL I have joined. It’s a 4-week knit along (KAL)hosted by the knitwear designer Stephen West. So i received my first clue and started knitting a few rows already. Since we can go wild with the yarn choices, I decided to throw in some of my hand dyed yarn in the pack as well 🙂
What do you think of these beauties?
Now the needles are calling me. I’d better sign off to continue on my rows.
Happy Knitting and Crocheting!
It’s never too late to say Happy New Year, everyone ! Like the title suggests, I went to the moon and now back 😀
For the past few months, I have travelled, visited families, seen new places and cultures.
Can you guess where I have been from these photos?
But now I am back to my yarn and craft world and it feels good to be back.
It feels good to be able to paint and dye (yarns) again. 🙂
This week I have been dyeing this new yarn base of 100% baby alpaca and I am so in love with how soft this fibre is. My first encounter with these lovely creatures was at YarnDale in Skipton last year. They were quite playful and didn’t mind human’s company.
Here they were smiling and enjoying having their photos taken 🙂
I have read some forum threads that discussed dyeing with alpaca yarn and fleece and a few mentioned that it didn’t take the dyes in as well as merino. But to my surprise, I dyed these two colourways and they turned out quite right, just the way I wanted 🙂
On the left is “Enchanted Garden” and on the right is “Alpaca’s Kisses”
I have set aside a few skeins to knit a project for myself this autumn (who can resist!?)and have listed a few in my shop www.handdrawnyarn.etsy.com as well.
Have you ever knitted/crocheted/worked with alpaca yarns? If so, what are your favorite projects and patterns? I have in mind that this yarn would be perfect for a shawl 🙂
I am heading to Revelry to check out some lovely shared patterns/projects now so i can get some ideas.
